After receiving his Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, USA in 1969, he was involved in the design of numerous recreational and residential communities ranging from 100 acres to over 5000 acres across the US. As a member of the multi-disciplinary team from the US, he was involved in the development of naval townships in the Gulf and Caspian Sea regions. Member of the World Bank team, he participated in the Master Plan for Subic Bay in the Philippines. In 1978, he returned ‘home’ and formed Satish Khanna Associates (SK-A) and has been involved in more than 250 projects in almost all regions of India besides the US, the Gulf, Iran, Nepal, the Philippines, and South America, in association with leading Indian and international professionals. A deep environmental appreciation of its conservation remains the enduring character of his works—each project offers unique opportunities for development: 200-acre Tehri New Town in Uttarakhand with fragile natural character of its terrain; 90-acre Virasat-e-Khalsa, in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab, in the lower watershed area of a ravine; Library of the Indian Parliament, New Delhi, conceived within the Indian tradition, built in a contemporary idiom, relates to the grandeur of the adjacent Parliament House; Indian Institute of Management, Vizag, responds to and extends the larger ecology of the region. Currently involved in national projects like the design of Central Park of Gift City (Gujarat International Finance and Tech City) and KNMA (Kiran Nadar Museum of Art) New Delhi, designed to offset the carbon footprint, aiming to achieve a LEED Platinum rating through innovation and the use of recycled materials. Fellow of the Indian Society of Landscape Architects, Satish Khanna has been a visiting faculty at the Schools of Landscape Architecture in India. Recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Prime Minister’s National Award for Excellence in Urban Planning and Design; Honored for his contribution to the hospitality industry; Award of Honor by the World Green Infrastructure Congress, representing more than 25 developed countries; and the coveted ISOLA Gold Medal—the highest honor for lifetime achievements by the Indian Society of Landscape Architects
